Apparel Photography: An overview of common mistakes

by Geetika Bhasin / Tuesday, 19 December 2017 / Published in Digital Photography, photography, Product Photography, Resources, Tips and Tricks

E-commerce has evolved and there are many things that got banished in practicing e-commerce photography. One thing that you must keep in mind is that not all kinds of e-commerce are the same. For different kinds of products, different techniques must be followed. In apparel photography there are certain mistakes that every e-retailer is big on making. It is serious business and photography is a vital business.

We would like to identify some common mistakes and aware you so that you can stop making these blunders. Without any further ado, let’s go ahead and see-

Unprepared Products-

A well prepared product makes a great product presentation. In the online industry, it is all about the presentation of the store and the products. Aren’t you curious to know if presentation wasn’t that necessary than why all e-commerce models are urging in working on the looks of the products and the stores.

Before you begin the session of photography, it is crucial to make necessary preparations of the product such as ironing it, placing it on the right mannequin, abolishing all the crumbles and stains from it. You have to see the product with the eyes of a customer because if you cannot anticipate what the customer will be seeing in the product, you will never be able to make good sales from your products.

Therefore, it is important to prepare the product before taking it to the studio. Place it on a nice and neat platform with plain white background and do the clicking.

Not using a Mannequin or Model

There are many e-retailers that overlook the high significance of communicating fit and shape to the customers. The best way to do so is by giving it out on a mannequin or hiring live models. Since the live model is a pricey business, mannequins can always do great justice with the endeavor. There is nothing bad in laying the object on the flat platform and taking pictures however, it will not encourage the customers to make purchases instantly. They will always feel baffled in the thoughts of whether or not the product should be bought. This is only because they will not be able to determine the exact fit and the shape of the product.

Customers usually imagine themselves in the product and for that, it is essential for them to know best about the fit. Make sure that next time you send your merchandise for photo taking, essential pros are used.

Lack of Pictures-

When e-commerce was still new to the audience, the stores hardly uploaded one or two pictures of a product for the customers to have an idea on what they are buying. Over time, the demand of more images was provoked and it was to be fulfilled. Now are the times when customers are not satisfied unless they see the product from different angles and views.

What e-retailers don’t understand is that adding few more pictures won’t harm their website but these can always be a gateway to add more to the sales. Every product must be accompanied with numerous pictures. Also, it is essential to take zoom click so that customer knows what fabric he is buying.

For the corrections in regard to the color can be done with the help of various photo-editing software as well. But there are some things that you must control at your end such as the mistakes that are mentioned above.

We would like to conclude by saying that you must not take any chances that can take down your sales. So think before you schedule next apparel photographing session.
