As an image can be made better through this process. So the changing of color of someone’s eyes can make the whole image better as a whole.
A lot of things can be achieved through this process. For example, the flash from your camera might have caught a red-eye on a perfect shot. What can be done then? That is right, a perfect way to fix that is through post processing. Through changing the eye color in photoshop, you can mend it in no time. Sometimes you want to experiment with different pictures and make someone’s eyes red like Superman, or maybe you want to make your favorite wolf from Game Of Thrones a different color to give it your own personal touch. You can achieve just that! Using Photoshop, you can learn to make any pair of eyes change color!
- Choose a photo
- Make a selection using the elliptical marquee tool and click and drag to make a selection.
- Hold alt + shift on windows to make and intersect the two selections at once.
- On the bottom right of the screen on the adjustment menu, select hue/saturation adjust layer.
- Repeat ‘step 2’ and ‘step 3’ for the other eye.
- Press ctrl+ backspace to make the background color same as the other eye.
- Press ctrl+d to deselect.
- Go to the Properties panel and go to the hue section to change the color of the eye.
- Use the saturation section to increase or decrease the intensity of the color.
- To change the brightness of the eyes, first create a group from the bottom right side of the screen.
- Click and drag the saturation mask on to the group.
- Add another adjustments layer to the image called the levels adjustment layer.
- On the properties panel use the slider to adjust the brightness.
Click on Files then open to edit a picture of your choice. Make sure the eyes are clear as for editing them, a good quality photo is required.
From the left side of the screen, select the elliptical marquee tool and drag over the radius of the eyes to make a selection. Press Space bar to drag the cursor around if needed.
Holding the two keys together will show the cursor with a cross sign next to it. This will allow you to get a more refined shape of the eyes, when intersecting them.
Hitting this screen will create a layer in the layers section labelled ‘Hue/Saturation 1’

After selecting the other eye, doing this step will make this layer get differentiated from the background like the other eye.
This is to deselect the eye, to move on to changing the color.
Change the color of the eyes to however you want it to look, let your imagination run wild!
This will increase how dull or how full of color the subject’s eyes look.
Using the brightness tab normally on the properties panel makes the picture look very unnatural therefore leaving us having to create a new group. Which can be found on the bottom right of the screen, beside the adjustment icon.
The ‘Hue/Saturation 1’ layer needs to be dragged into this group.
Again, click on the Adjustments icon on the bottom right to prompt a menu, select ‘Levels’ and make sure this is in the group as well.
This will allow you to change the brightness of the eyes more naturally, in turn making the edit more livelike.
